We have used a fresh and bright color palette for the backgrounds, taking inspiration from the cosmos. The gold foil illuminates the calligraphy and the painting overall. It not only renders a rich and vibrant calligraphy composition but also resonates with the idea of illumination – a reflective surface that aesthetically soothes the eyes and the heart.
The Illumination calligraphy series makes use of the Al-Sunbali script, which is a modern script with a dynamic character.
Language is not necessary to appreciate Art. The same is true of Islamic Art – one doesn’t need to know or understand the Arabic language to see the beauty. We hope Illumination and our Arabic other calligraphy artworks resonate with Aotearoa. See the illumination collection.

Collection: illumination Dimensions: 91x121cm - Acrylics and gold leaf on canvas - Comes framed There are five key practices that all Muslims are obligated to fulfill throughout their lifetime. These practices are referred to as pillars because they form the foundation of Muslim life. The five pillars of Islam are Shahada, Salah, Zakat, Sawm, and Hajj. We have written the following 5 verses on this painting. Shahada أشهدُ أنْ لا إلهَ إلاَّ اللهُ وأشهدُ أنَّ محمّداً رسولُ الله “There is no deity but God; Muhammad is the messenger of God.” Fasting is prescribed for you—as it was for those before you—so perhaps you will become mindful of Allah.” Quran 2:183 Hajj إِنَّ ٱلصَّفَا وَٱلْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَآئِرِ ٱللَّهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ ٱلْبَيْتَ أَوِ ٱعْتَمَرَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَن يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا وَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَاكِرٌ عَلِيمٌ “Indeed, ˹the hills of Ṣafa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever performs the pilgrimage or minor pilgrimage, let them walk between the two hills. And whoever does good willingly, Allah is truly Appreciative, All-Knowing.” Whatever good you send forth for yourselves, you will certainly find its reward˺ with Allah. Surely Allah is All-Seeing of what you do.” Quran 2:110 Prayer وَٱسْتَعِينُوا بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَإِنَّهَا لَكَبِيرَةٌ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱلْخَـٰشِعِينَ “And seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, it is a burden except for the humble” Quran 2:45 The approach to ‘Illumination'

Collection: illumination Dimensions: 76x76cm - Acrylics and gold leaf on canvas We have written Adhkars "Praises for Allah (God)" in this painting. Please see the Adhkar in the pictures we have used. ‘Dhikar’ is the remembrance of Allāh (God), and it illuminates the heart. One feels comfort, satisfaction, and contentment in Dhikar. ‘Tasbihaat’ are the specific words Dhikar that Muslims learn at an early age, and use in daily life without even thinking. Tasbihaat is embedded in our speech and thoughts, and a Muslim’s relationship with these words makes them unique and powerful, such that they deserve to be written in gold. The approach to ‘Illumination'We have used a fresh and bright color palette for the backgrounds, taking inspiration from the cosmos. The gold foil illuminates the calligraphy and the painting overall. Ayatul Kursi - آيَة الْكُرْسِي - Acrylic paints on canvas with layering effect (2D) Ayat ul Kursi Verse is the 255th verse of the 2nd surah of the Quran, Al-Baqarah and it is also the longest verse of the Qur'an. The verse speaks about how nothing and nobody is regarded to be comparable to God. This is one of the best-known verses of the Quran and is widely memorised and displayed in the Muslim world. Translation: Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. Hazrat Ali (RA) said: “I heard the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) saying while on his pulpit: ‘Whoever reads Aayatul Kursi, (Quran 2:255), after each obligatory prayer, there is nothing which prevents him from entering Paradise except death, and it is only a righteous and pious worshipper who would persist in reciting it regularly.” [Al-Bayhaqi] Dimensions: 41x103x5cm
